Hey you,

The first week of 2013 is done, and I’ve got a pretty interesting story to share with you! One of my major goals for this year is to give as much as I possibly can in every single thing I do.

Having said that, my first big project of the year is the release of my brand new Photoshop Actions. These are actions that I have literally poured my heart and soul into, carefully crafting each one to my personal artistic standards, and making sure that they are the best on the market.

Honestly? It’s been intense. I spent the whole of last week testing because I want these actions to be my most versatile and creative yet, and after many trials and tribulations I have finally succeeded.

Seriously, these new Photoshop actions are beautiful and I couldn’t be more proud. I can’t wait to share them with you.

But as I said, one of my goals is to give as much as possible. As important as it is for the new Photoshop Actions to be successful, it’s also important to me that I give something back to those who can’t necessarily afford the actions.

Why? Because I remember being in that position. I remember being so broke that I couldn’t afford proper training, or fancy Photoshop actions. I had to rely on free online resources to teach me everything I know. And to this day I am so grateful for each and every single person who ever gave away free knowledge online, because it helped me get to where I am today.

So, to celebrate the brand new actions I have created a four-part Photoshop tutorial series to show you the ropes to becoming a Photoshop legend. Yeah, and it’s all for free.

You will find these FREE photoshop teachings in your inbox over the next two weeks available for you to enjoy, learn, and use – ONLY IF YOU ARE A SUBSCRIBER! To subscribe and get full access to these upcoming teachings, click here.

And guess what? Today’s Chatty Tuesday is part ONE of the series.

As well as teaching you some new Photoshop tips and tricks, today’s Chatty Tuesday announces a chance for you to win my new set of actions (which are still currently unreleased). That’s over 35 actions. For FREE! Who wouldn’t want that, right?

Hey you,

I always used to wonder how some photographers managed to achieve such gorgeous bokeh with what seemed to be such wide lenses.
Hello lovely,

I hope you have been enjoying all of the Chatty Tuesday videos lately, I’ve been working so hard on giving you my absolute best – I hope you can tell!

What I love most about Chatty Tuesdays is the consistency and regularity of it all. You know that every Tuesday there will be some sort of inspirational video waiting for you right here on the blog (or in your inbox if you are awesome enough to be a subscriber!).

Today I would like to welcome you to the very first Photoshop Tutorial Thursday!

Photoshop Tutorial Thursday is all about sharing the “secrets” of my editing techniques – I hope you enjoy it!

Today’s tutorial can be found underneath the image:

Step One: I pieced together all of the images I took to change the image into a square shape. I did this by using layer masks!

Step Two: I used “Beauty Mask” to clean up the skin, and I added pink eyeshadow to make her eyes stand out.

Step Three: I then used “CONTOUR” to add definition to the edges of the image and to her face and body.

Step Four: I used “She’s So Lucky” on just her body through the use of layer masks.

Step Five: I used “Niagara Blue” on everything but her body using layer masks.

Step Six: To boost the colours I used one of my favourite Photoshop Actions, “Sweet and Dreamy”, from The Inspired Store.

Step Seven: I added more blue to the top right of the image and got rid of the distracting bright line behind her using the clone stamp tool.

Step Nine: I used “Like A Painting” at a low opacity to add dimension.

Step Ten: As always I used “Alex’s Sharpy” to sharpen the image at the end of my editing. This really adds beautiful definition and helps the image stand out.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s Photoshop Tutorial Thursday, and I look forward to seeing you all again next week :) If you have any suggestions for an episode feel free to leave it in the comment section below!

Big hugs!
xoxo

I posted this photo last week as my new Facebook profile picture and the response was phenomenal! The photo was originally created back in April to celebrate my 23rd birthday, and it’s turned out to be one of my favourite self-portraits ever.

Someone in the Facebook comments asked how it was edited, so I thought I’d let you into the step-by-step process. This is one of those images that I spent a lot of time editing, so I unfortunately can’t go into full detail on what I did because it would take such a long time.

Here’s a quick summary of the edit:

I first extended the photograph to turn it into a square.

Then I added taller flowers to replace the phone pole and create an “alice in wonderland” feel to the image.

I added additional clouds for atmosphere.

I added extra hair for volume and drama.

The main photoshop action used on the colour was “Scarlet Love“.

After that, it was subtle colour changes here and there to create the purple tones in the flowers that I was looking for and also the additional colour in the sky. The secret here is the use of opacities and layer masks!

To finish it off I used Alex’s Sharpy as the final sharpen.

Hello lovely friends,

I have heard from so many of you recently that it is so beneficial to see how my Photoshop actions are used in photos, so today I thought I’d walk you through the five-step process of how I edited this photograph!

The beauty of these actions is that you can mix them in any which way you like and come out with totally different styles and looks! It’s like putting together a beautiful outfit with varying accessories :)

These actions really help me turn a boring-coloured photograph into a STUNNINGLY-coloured photograph. The colours in your images have so much to do with the impact they have on the viewer, so even if you don’t use my actions make sure that you are using Photoshop to really bring out the best in your images!

Okay here we go ..

You can buy “She’s So Lucky“, “Green Cherries“, “Maracas“, “Niagara Blue” and “Alex’s Sharpy” here in the online store.

EDIT//

In response to an awesome question in the comment section, here’s the WHY to the changes above.

I primarily used ”She’s So Lucky” to brighten the image. I tend to use this action a lot at the very start of each edit, as it really adds life and lifts the colours. It gives me a better base to work with.

Then I used “Green Cherries” on the background to bring the greens to life. I feel that the greens captured by digital cameras are dull and lacklustre. This action does a brilliant job of truly bringing out the beauty of greenery in a unique way.

I followed this by using “Maracas” to add warmth to the image, as it was feeling a bit cold.

“Niagara Blue” was next. If you take a look at the before & after here, you can see that it adds a beautiful, soft contrast with additional blue shadowing and brighter highlights. In my opinion, this action does not get as much credit as it deserves – it can truly transform an image even when used at lower opacities.

The final step was to use “Alex’s Sharpy“. This action adds a beautiful sharpness to my images and I love using it as the final step to my edits.

HINT//

If you are looking to purchase the above actions and want to get the BEST value for your money, here are your options:

Buy all five for £10 less by using this discount code: BUY4SAVE10 This would give you all five actions for £65. (£13 per action)

OR

Buy all twenty two actions as part of the “BUY ALL” package for £129 (£5.8 per action) **BETTER VALUE FOR MONEY!**

You can buy “She’s So Lucky“, “Green Cherries“, “Maracas“, “Niagara Blue” and “Alex’s Sharpy“ here in the online store.

Step by step, this makes it easier don’t you think?

Use the action “Green Cherries” at 59%, select the layer mask. Grab your brush tool in the colour black at it’s softest and draw over her body to hide it.

Use “Maracas” at opacity of 15%

Use “Contour” to add definition.
For those of you who don’t know, I have a section on my blog called “Edit This Photo“. What happens is I give out a high resolution file and ask people to edit it and send it back to me. What we end up with is lots of different edits of the exact same photo. It’s always a lot of fun and very interesting to see the different edits that people come up with – and how our editing styles are so unique. Please know that this time, however, I won’t be providing links to each photo as I am going to compile them into one large image as it will save me lots of time!

ANYONE can participate. All you have to do is follow these seven steps:

3) Resize the photo so that its width is 769 pixels.

4) No watermarks or logos!
