How to break up with procrastination … for good!

Soooo … I have a question for you -

Seriously, how much time do you waste procrastinating? Too much.

It’s time to say goodbye to procrastination and hello to more free time.

Watch today’s Chatty Tuesday video below to find out how to break up with procrastination!

Oh my gosh – the steps in that video are so delicious.

You have to learn to break up with procrastination – you are better off without it! (that’s a tweetable!)

Now it’s your turn!

Leave a comment and let me know:

 1) What are your biggest distractions and how can you avoid them?

2) What activities REALLY MATTER and bring value to your business? What activities could you do without?

3) If you had more spare time, what kinds of things would you love to do?

Have a beautiful week, and I hope that after this video you have a lot more free time to do the things you LOVE!

Huge hugs

xoxo

I watch A LOT of TV so my biggest distraction is the television. With TV being so accessible these days, I can watch TV almost anywhere but I really fall victim to it at home. I think a way for me to combat this distraction is to leave the house for times during the day and go work somewhere else. I’m far more productive when I’m at a coffe shop or bookstore. I’m also distracted by my phone. I think it’s an obsession actually lol I don’t really feel comfortable turning it off in case a client needs to call so I’m trying to figure out how to reduce this distraction. Any ideas Alex?

I’m not quite sure about the second question. I feel that Facebook, Instagram and blogging are the things I like to do but I don’t know if that amount of time I spend on any of these things is helping my business (or hurting it for that matter).

I work three jobs so my spare time is precious to me! When I do have some free time, I like to go to concerts, check out museums, eat at restaurants with my friends, go to the movies and I actually like to write (for myself).

I think I will try a few of these out! I was never able to make use of dayplanners AT ALL. I never opened one, I think the longest time I’d ever used a dayplanner was that one year in high school when I kept using it to take notes. Not exactly the same thing, ha!

I am the worst at future planning. To me, there just isn’t one. I have no concept of future apart from maybe a deadline or major holiday. It’s weird. I like the scheduling idea though it doesn’t seem like something I would stick with, but maybe it would help me with my new time issue:

I changed my day job schedule to something I thought would work better: night shift two days a week, 4 hour afternoon shift rest of the week. I FOUGHT hard for weekends off.

Turns out, the night shifts destroy my sleeping patterns so I feel too tired to make use of any of the mornings. And night naturally turns me into a zombie. So much for freeing up time!

The scheduling sounds like a good idea though. if only I can figure out what should be on it!

I love this! This not only works if you have your own business but I think it can work for anything! I’m a college student and one of the things I struggled with most was figuring out when I need to study, when I should have free time, etc. I love the idea of writing EVERYTHING down in your calendar and if it’s not there, it doesn’t exist – no matter how small.

Great video, Alex! Oh, and I love the new ombre hair :)
    1. My biggest distractions are Facebook and beautiful weather. When I’m editing or working online, I’m constantly checking Facebook. If it’s a beautiful day, I decide to go outside over working. It’s just so hard for me to pass up gorgeous weather!
    2. Updating my Facebook fan page. Keeping in touch with fans and being active on Facebook probably brings me in the most business. Also, spending time creating personal thank you letters and working on other similar small details to give to my clients when I mail them their contract and/or CD of images. I put a lot of time into my website every now and then, but I don’t feel as if people find me well enough through my website. I wish that would change because I am fairly proud of my website, but I am not sure how to change that.
    3. If I had more spare time I would travel more, enjoy the outdoors more, see my family more, and do more photo shoots for myself.

    Hi Alex!

I really appreciate this video and the Self Control program sounds great! I’m just having trouble finding it. Can you guide me in the right direction?

    1) Biggest distractions & how to avoid – Facebook and Pinterest! How to avoid them…throw away my iphone?? Seriously, these are so bad because they are so, so available on my phone. I would need to find a way to un-add them. Does anybody know how to do this???

    2) Biggest value add activities, what I can do without – The biggest thing I could do is put myself on a 9 to 6 work week and schedule everything out the way that you suggest. This would be so worth it. The thing is, I HATE schedules, and this is ultimately what makes me the worst procrastinator. So I’m going to have to discipline myself. I can do without watching television during the day (even if it’s just to have it on in the background). And again, Facebook and Pinterest!

    3) With more spare time I would – …Make art! I would love to work on my art, but I never let myself because I always tell myself I don’t deserve it because I’m behind in my work. So I should treat making art as my treat!

Thanks for the video! That really helps tremendously ;-)

    Best,
    Christina

    1. Anything and everything! I’m like a squirrel!

    2) Daily shooting, weekly scouting (I’m new to my area), researching marketing, working on branding. Things to do without? Eh. Sleeping too often? Maybe a little less husband time.

    3. I LOVE the beach. And for the first time in 26 years, I’m not landlocked. I want to spend WAY more time sitting in the sand, staring at the waves. And I live in France — I just want to travel, everywhere.
