The most exquisite mixture.

Day 8,306 of my life.  ”Crossroads” Read more about this photo here.

There’s something about the “right here right now” in creation. There’s something to be said about spontaneity, just rolling with what happens. I can come up with a theme, a concept, a location. But there’s no planning how the light will shine, there’s no planning how the feelings will all come together on the day, there’s no planning where the wind will blow or if everything will come together all at once. It’s spontaneity. It’s luck. It’s beauty. It’s carefully executed guess-work. It’s a calculated roll of the dice. I know what I’m doing behind the camera, but being behind the camera does not allow me to play God. I can’t control every single thing. My job is to bring together components of what I feel would make a beautiful photograph and then try to locate the moment that engulfs the most exquisite mixture of all these components so that I can capture it on camera.

My job is carefully executed guess-work. It’s a calculated roll of the dice. And I love it.

Your photo is perfect! I don’t think the lighting could be any better! I also love the spontaneity and how carefree the photo is! Also, I just found your Chatty Tuesday videos yesterday. Love them!

Great post Alex – a simple message, but so true. Most of my favourite pictures have come from spur-of-the-moment ideas. There’s something about a fresh idea popping in your mind that seems to make it work – maybe I over-plan and over-think and so I’m disappointed with the result when I’ve thought about it too long, so a spontaneous shoot feels so fresh and alive :)
