Photo Shoot in Toronto of the gorgeous Dallas during beautiful Autumn!

I’m not going to lie – I was nervous about this one. She’s a photographer, a photographer who wanted to hire me to take her photos. And not just any photos – but photos that she wants to grace her new website and blog. I mean, it’s pretty important. Not only that – but the photo shoot was to take place in Toronto. Yes, Canada. In other words – I would be totally unprepared location-wise, having never been there before. Everything would have to come to me on the spot – no pre-planning. And so I was a little bit nervous.

But along with the nervousness there was this huge excitement. Excitement because 1) she obviously likes my work enough to want me to take her portraits 2) I’d be in a brand new location which would probably be filled with inspiration and 3) I’d get to make a new friend in the process. Win -w in, right?

As soon as I met Dallas all of the nervousness went away. I realised that she was so genuine, patient, and kind – and that she totally trusted me! She even brought along three different outfits! Yes – you heard me – three! And so everything fell beautifully into place. It didn’t rain like it was supposed to, the light was just perfect (cloudy, but not grey), and she was just so wonderful and easy to photograph and my camera loved her.

We started shooting and the excitement poured into my heart ten fold. We’d be photographing, and whenever I’d take a quick look at the screen on the back of the camera, I’d get a wave of happiness – because capturing such beautiful moments is something I was born to do. I feel so lucky to do something that I’m so passionate about. So, so lucky.

So, here are my favourites – which, by the way, were very hard to chose as I could have chosen them all ;). Also – for those wondering, I shot this entire series with the Canon 85mm 1.2 (which I had rented for the weekend!). I fell in love, and now have dreams of owning it ;).

Think Dallas looks like a great person? That’s because she IS! Find her at these places:

For those who are interested, this was shot with the Canon 5d mark ii using the (rented) Canon 85mm 1.2 lens. The Photoshop actions I used were all part of the November 2011 Collection which you can buy here.

Beautiful. I love the framing with the yellow leaves. Do you know if there is an equivalent lens for Nikon? I love much-deeper minimal depth of field look it created. Great work! (And lovely subject, I might add. That does make it a little easier, huh?:) )

I love how these photos have an autumn glow around them. I can’t get enough of bokeh haha. Your posts just make me want a 5d mk2 even more! I’ve started saving for one, but I feel like it’s taking forever haha. Oh well I will get there, thanks for being so inspirational!

Wow these pictures are just fantastic…the colours….settings and the way you’ve brought her right out of the picture. To be in such beautiful surroundings but still draw our eyes to her is just stunning.

These are just the kind of portrait pictures I would love to A) have done of myself and B) be able to do myself !!

    Well done

Stunning shots Alex! Can I ask if you shot mainly at 1.2? The DOF is amazing and I love the bokeh but I struggle to shoot so wide, what’s your secret?!!

  • http://www.alexbeadonphotography.com Alex Beadon

Hi Emma, Yes I did mainly shoot at 1.2 – what a delicious lens!!! I think what really helps me shooting wide is back button focus, I’m able to select my focus, hold it there while I recompose and then take the shot separately. It works wonders for me and ever since doing that it’s been much easier! Big hugs xxx

  • http://www.emmagodfrey.com Emma Godfrey

Thanks Alex,I use back button focus – I guess I need lots more practice ;-)
