“As an artist I dread the day that I’m stuck in my comfort zone. I think it’s so important to always push boundaries, throw yourself out of your comfort zone in any way that you possibly can. I believe that you grow tremendously when you’re doing things that scare you and excite you all at the same time. Everything is a learning experience, and although you can’t always see it at the time, failure helps you on your journey to success – so it’s a win-win situation :).”
If you follow my blog you’ll come to learn that I talk a lot about the importance of living outside of your comfort zone, living your life as an adventure. But how often do I actually do it? Throwing myself out of my comfort zone is something I’ve been focusing on a lot lately, with my shoot swap with Dominique, an organised lunch for photographers, and now this!
Sachin is an awesome photographer who I actually found thanks to Jasmine Star‘s creative live workshop. I actually thought he was based in Canada, but turns out he’s in London for the time being. We got talking on Twitter and somehow ended up with a decision to meet up and do something a little bit different – street portraits.
The idea is to pick a spot, and wait for people to pass by so that we can stop them and ask them if it would be alright for us to take their photo. It was awesome. Here are some of my favorites:
(All shot with my Canon 5d Mark ii and my 50mm 1.4)
I was surprised that most people were more than willing to have their portraits taken, and that some of them even wanted to stop and have a chat. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and I’m so happy I finally did it! This was an incredible experience, and I’m pretty sure it’s going to be my new photographic addiction. I have to say a huge thank you to Sachin who was totally up for the challenge! He’s a great guy – super friendly and fun to be around, so he made the morning a great one.
Here are a few behind the scenes:
Sachin’s very own street portrait ;) Just testing the light here :)
Sachin asking the old man for the first time if we could take his photo and getting turned down. I later approached him on accident for a second time and somehow he managed to get him to agree :)
And last but not least, here’s Sachin doing his thing.
Hope you all have a beautiful day :)
