Goodbye 2009

It’s the last day of 2009 and I’m sitting here not really knowing what I’m about to type, but I’m just going to go with it.

This year has taught me so many invaluable lessons, but I’m just going to cover a few.

1) Be grateful for everything life has given you. I can’t fully explain how thankful I am for everything in my life -the people, the places. Everything fits together so beautifully and I just feel so lucky. I mainly have my parents and sister to thank for this. They are the greatest gifts in my life and without them, I would be so lost. Anyways, the point is that I constantly feel so grateful.

2) Nothing is ever black or white. Everything is always a shade of gray. There are always a never ending amount of ways to look at life, problems, situations. Everyone is different. Everyone has their opinions. You might never be able to see things the way that they do, and they might never be able to see things the way that you do – but that’s what makes this life so beautiful. Embrace it.

3) Be who you are. Don’t fight the tide. I am a photographer. I love banana bread. I wear socks that don’t match. I am a drama queen. I am an artist. I am a sister. I am Trinidadian. I am British. I am Venezuelan. I am American. I am from nowhere and everywhere. I love my family. I am crazy. I see life in images. I am happy. I am loud. I am passionate. I am a vegetarian when I feel to be. I am indecisive. I love my best friends. I am forgetful. I am loving. I love to travel. I love seeing the beauty in nothing. I am proud. I am a photoshop addict. I love myself. I strongly believe that there is nothing more beautiful than photography. I am random. I could go on and on, but I’ll stop there.

4) Just do it. Yeah, Nike got it right. I think the title says it all.

2009, thank you for being so good to me. Probably one of the most important things that happened this year, was my coming to terms with the fact that I want to be a photographer. It scared the hell out of me at first, to be avoiding the “conventional” route, but now I’m loving it and I urge you, whoever you are, to do whatever it is that makes you come alive.

I hope everyone has a great time tonight :) :) Happy New Years!

Alex, you and I were cut from the same cloth, I’d say… Thanks for your openness and enthusiasm in all your posts this year. I’m looking forward to what 2010 has in store for us! I think it’ll be an amazing one. So long as we continue to be grateful to have discovered our passion and to have the chance to pursue it! See you on the other side of tomorrow!

    Love it.

I usually say more. But I can’t help feel that “love it” is all I can say.
